I was very lucky to have two talented young women working in my lab this semester. They were critical to the success of my first research project.

Jennifer Bates started doing research with me in the late summer and helped put together the IRB proposal and materials for our first project. She was also responsible for a bulk of the data collection. Next semester, she will be doing her own research project.

Amalie Laurich joined our reseach team a few weeks into the semester. She helped me with the data collection and will be taking a lead role in a research project next year.

One of our projects has been submitted as a poster presentation for the Eastern Psychological Association conference next spring.

If you are a student at Stevenson and want to get involved in research please email me at dschurtz@stevenson.edu

I am a new faculty member here at Stevenson but I have a long history in the Baltimore region. I grew up in Perry Hall and attended Towson University for my BS (Psychology/Criminal Justice) and MA (Experimental Psychology) degrees. I went to the University of Kentucky to obtain my Ph.D.

My research interests include: emotions, social comparisons, mindfulness and whatever my students seem to be interested in (this semester it looks like forgiveness).
